Bill 32 Update

By now, you should have received our newsletter. Included with it was information on Alberta Probincial Bill 32 and an election signature card. These were previously mailed to members in July. If you haven't already done so, please read the Info HERE along with BM letter HERE.
Please return the card promptly and call the office if you have any questions or concerns.

Don't forget that we'll be having a draw for two $250.00 gift cards at our membership meetings from all members who have signed and returned cards. The return rate so far is at 25%. If you didn't receive a card or misplaced yours, you can download a copy HERE to complete and send back.

Just a reminder, we'll also be holding a second draw for two more $250.00 gift cards for members who download the mobile app (see the banner at the top of the page) once we have 200 registered users. We currently have 114 members who are using the app.

On June 1, SMART launched its brand-new organizing website, smartcareers.org - a comprehensive, easily accessible tool designed to bring new workers into the unionized trades; recruit new signatory contractors; and provide accurate information on how to join or form a union in the sheet metal and transportation industries.

Please share smartcareers.org far and wide, particularly with nonunion workers who are in our industries and with your family members looking to start a rewarding career!

When starting work with a Local 8 contractor, please ensure that:

a) You have a referral for the job. This ensures that remittances for dues, health & welfare premiums and pension contributions are made as per your contract; and that hours worked are recorded in our system

b) Your dues are paid to AT LEAST the end of the month you start work. If you start work after the first week of the month, base dues for that month are NOT deducted and remitted. Also keep in mind that remittances are not sent to our office until the 15th of the month following their deduction.

Local 8 is proud to support our communities through donations to worthy causes.
All funding is made from our Benevolent Fund and through motions made by our members
at our regular meetings. We've donated to:
